Gwen and Eddie are the country's favorite movie star couple, both on and off-screen.  Their break up becomes a major problem for the movie studio that owns the couple's last film together.  The studio wishes to premiere the film at a press junket, and hires a veteran press agent to coax Gwen and Eddie to appear together at the event.  However, things become increasingly complicated when the film is late arriving and Eddie falls for another woman.

America's Sweethearts stars Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, John Cusack, Hank Azaria, Stanley Tucci, Christopher Walken, Seth Green and Billy Crystal.  The movie was written by Billy Crystal and Peter Tolan, directed by Joe Roth, and features music by James Newton Howard.  It is rated PG-13 with a feature running time of 104 minutes.

The film is presented in an anamorphic widescreen version (2.40:1) and a fullscreen version (4:3).  The widescreen version is the basis for this review.  The overall quality of the transfer is very good.  Images are clean and colors are rich with fully saturated hues.  There is a high degree of contrast and black levels are deep.  Picture defect mastering is perfect with no major flaws or digital compression artifacts.

Video Rating: 8 out of 10

The following spoken language options are available for this movie: English Dolby Digital 5.1, English and French Dolby 2.0 channel surround.  The following subtitle tracks are available: English and French subtitles, and English closed captions.  The English Dolby Digital 5.1 track is the basis for this review.  Dialogue is natural sounding and clear.  The surround channels are seldom used, and primarily for ambience.  Discrete channel activity is limited and occurs almost exclusively in the forward channels.  The LFE channel is mellow and serves to add depth to the music soundtrack.

Audio Rating: 6 out of 10

The tactile sound effects are average and present in about one quarter of the DVD's chapters.  Subtle and moderate impacts are the types of tactile effects that can be experienced.  The best tactile moments are found in the background music of chapters 9 and 10, the gunshots in chapter 15, and with the rescue on the roof in chapter 24.

Tactile Sound Effects Rating: 5 out of 10
